The Pirate4×4.com redesign is now finished. I wanted to come up with something really unique and something that fit Pirate’s image. I spent some time kicking around local junk yards looking for ideas. Just about every part of the layout was hacked together from real objects I found. One cool thing I like is the navigation menu I made out of an old Dana-Spicer Transfercase ID tag I came across.
For the header and footer graphics the main look I was after was an old green tool box. I started out by making a green gradient then overlaid different textures until I got the look I was after. I later came across some rivets on an airplane that I blended into the corners to round things off. To see how the header was drawn click here. To see how the chrome skull in the footer was drawn click here

This is simply the sickest fabricated Ford 9″ axle housing I have ever seen. Constructed from 1018/1020 material, the outer shell is cnc laser cut and bent from one peice of quarter inch plate!.. 20 bends! The backing plate and internal gussets are half an inch thick! Back plate is drilled and tapped for grade 8 studs that are included. Housing comes fully welded internally and externally and is built to be the last word in fabricated 9″ housings!

Pirate4×4.com has been a long time favorite website of mine and i am honored to get the job of redesigning it. The site is the largeset off-road related website in the world receiving over 1 million unique visitors per month and a message board that has over 70,000 members. With such a large audience the site offers effective advertising oportunities to companies both within and outside the off-road market. A site redesign has been long overdue and we plan to roll out a design that not only reflects Pirate4×4’s hard core image but aids in attracting even more traffic and advertisers. Above is the first style concept for the site i did. I love the look of chrome against rust, kind of that rat rod look where you’d see a chromed out engine in a half rusted rod. I have no idea where i will take this but i hope i am able to come up with something cool!

PSC Motorsports, the industry leader in performance off-road steering components, was recently featured in the November issue of Off-Road Business Magazine where my work gets a positive mention. Dan Volkens also deserves a mention, this project could not have come together without him.
Believing the off-road consumer to be more Internet savvy than ever, Allen made PSC Motorsports’ online store a top priority. He reports that the site has been a true producer, with more than 750,000 hits and 9,000-plus original URLs in the second month alone. Allen credits Web guru Jeremy Bratcher for deftly converting a white board full of ideas and images into a cyberspace reality.
“The Web site has been our most beneficial marketing tool to date,” says Allen. “Our objective is not to only have an online store, but an informative Web site that helps drive sales. We calculate that nearly 90% of our customers have been to our Web site before making (purchasing) contact with us through the site or the telephone.”

I needed to draw a chrome looking skull for a website graphic. I started out by drawing the outline of the skull type i was after, with exagerated features where it looks more like a skull of a demon. I then brought in chrome and brushed metal textures and messed around with it untill it started to come together. When i started drawing i had no idea how i was going to do the mouth area but i ended up drawing each tooth individually. I have a habbit of saving what im working on each step of the way so i can always revert back to a certain part if i dont like the direction i was headed. When i finished drawing this i had a ridiculous amount of files where i had stoped and started again, so i thought it would be cool to see them looped together. I designed a logo for procon.org that was one out of two finalist from 266 logos from designers from 18 countries. I felt pretty confident my design was going to win but in the end it was decided against because apparently a thumbs up means “up yours” in certain middle eastern countries. Perhaps someone should tell this guy
Procon.org is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) public benifit corporation whose purpose is to inform the public about controversial issues using facts, news, and hundreds of diverse opinions in a pro-con format.
